European DGs of probation convene in Dublin to discuss prioritising resources
Dublin is the place to be for the conference of Directors-General (DG) of probation on February 24th and 25th 2011. Hosting the DG conference Michael Donnellan, Director of the Probation Service in Ireland, spoke to CEP about the upcoming conference. "For the DGs this is the event where we get together to share our experiences and find solutions," says Michael Donnellan. "We are looking for ways to maximise our resources and achieve greater efficiencies at this time of economic downturn." Read more
Launch of the CEP International Register of Experts
We have pleasure in informing you that the CEP International Register of Experts is now open to CEP members wishing to access this unique repository of knowledge. This initiative was proposed at the CEP General Assembly in Tallinn with the intention of facilitating the process of knowledge exchange and also to enhance the cooperation between different jurisdictions. CEP meets with Latvian Minister of Justice
On the occasion of the conference "Strengthening of Human Resource Capacity of the Prison and Probation System of Latvia" held in Riga on 15th-16th December 2010, a CEP delegation had the chance to meet briefly with the Latvian Minister of Justice Mr. Aigars Štokenbergs. Portugal hosts 7th Conference on Electronic Monitoring
Portugal is proud to host the upcoming conference on electronic monitoring (EM) this year in Évora. Susana Pinto has been part of the preparatory group since 2009. It is the first time that the conference has been held in a country other than The Netherlands. Susana Pinto explains how the conference furthers probation in Portugal: "We are not new in EM but we still experience difficulties convincing the judicial community that EM is an important tool in the probation service." The high level of interest in the conference shows that EM is a hot topic across Europe. Read more
EuroVista’s new editors welcome your contribution and support
EuroVista is a journal published by CEP and Birmingham University. It is dedicated to linking research with policy and practice in probation and community justice throughout Europe. The journal seeks to share experiences and ideas of good practice. Dr Gerhard Ploeg (Norway), a Vice-President of CEP, and Professor Rob Canton (England) are its new joint editors. Read more
2nd STARR Expert Meeting: Focus on Fighting Domestic Violence
From the 24th-26th of November 2010, Paris was the scene of the European seminar ‘Fight against domestic violence: comparative European practices'. This event was the second expert meeting held in the framework of the European project ‘Strengthening Transnational Approaches to Reduce Re-offending' (STARR).
