Courts
Information for Judges and Legal Professionals
The Probation Service undertakes Family Conferences under the Children Act, 2001, as well as pre-sanction assessments and reports on offenders for the criminal courts, where requested by the Judge. We also supervise offenders on community sanctions (generally probation or community service). On any day, the Service is supervising and/or assessing up to 6,000 offenders – both adults and young people - in the community, including those on:
a) Probation;
b) Community Service;
c) Conditionally Suspended Sentences; and
d) Post-Custody Supervision.
We also complete a number of victim impact reports for courts each year. For more information on the work of the Service, see Who We Are, and What We Do. This part of the website will focus on issues of particular relevance to the Courts Service, judges, and lawyers working in the criminal courts, as well as those studying or researching in this field. The section is divided into the following parts:
- Courts - Legislation
- Our Service Standards
- Courts - Working Effectively
- Partnership Working
- Statistical Reports on The Probation Service
- Court Judgments
