Offender Programmes

Offender programmes are structured interventions designed to change patterns of behaviour or thinking so as to reduce the risk of re-offending. Such programmes must be grounded in proven theory and practice and must address specific identified issues that contribute to offending (criminogenic needs). The programmes may be delivered in either a group setting or individually over a set but flexible period of time.

Many programmes have a cognitive-behavioural approach which research has shown to offer some of the best outcomes in terms of reducing offending.

The Probation and Welfare Service, in association with our partner agencies, provides programmes for offenders in:

  • Anger Management;
  • Alcohol education;
  • Offending Behaviour;
  • Addiction Awareness/Education;
  • Enhanced thinking skills;
  • Parenting skills;
  • Sex Offender Treatment; and
  • Social and Life Skills.

Detail on all of these can be found in our ‘What We Do’ section under Community Based Projects and Programmes.
