Where can victims of crime get information and support?

The Probation Service concerns itself with the plight of victims and attempts to consider your sensitivities and trauma in the way that it undertakes its work. The Victims Charter, which can be found in our publications section, provides information for you, the victim, on the role of the Probation Service and what support you can expect from us.

We work in partnership with communities, local services and voluntary organisations to reduce offending and to make communities safer.

A large number of community projects around the country work closely with Probation Service staff in the community and in prisons to enhance the re-integration and resettlement of ex-offenders as positive, contributing members of their communities. Some of these community projects also focus on supporting the victims and their communities.
Information on the work for the projects and initiatives and contact details are outlined in our Community Based Projects and Programmes page.

Victims and their communities can obtain further information from the Communities & Victims page of the site.

If you would like any further advice on the probation process, or require further information on how to get support we can help, just contact your local Probation Service office (details available in Contact).

In addition we have some website links specifically geared towards providing support for victims and communities – please see our Links page for further details.
