Community Based Projects & Programmes

The Probation Service works in partnership with communities, local services and voluntary organisations to reduce offending and to make communities safer.

A little over 40% (about €21 million) of the total Probation Service budget (€50 million in 2006) is dedicated to funding and supporting 66 organisations and projects providing employment placement, accommodation, drug treatment, education and training, restorative justice initiatives and other important services to offenders and their communities.

These community projects around the country work closely with Probation Service staff in the community and in prisons, who refer offenders to them, to enhance their re-integration and resettlement as positive, contributing members of their communities.
